Make do and mend - how to make an old pair of jeans in to a skirt

If you are like me and find shop bought denim skirts fit a bit odd this is a great way to recycle a pair of old jeans.
They must be baggy loose fit boyfriend style jeans or this may not work.
you will need a sewing machine, i advise with a denim needle as these are nice and strong.
Any colour cotton, i used white as it was already on my machine.
Scissors
and pins

Start by measuring with he jeans against your body how long you want you skirt to be.
I chose over the knee as i have a short skirt made previously.
mark on the jeans with a snip or tailors chalk the length adding a couple of inches for adjustments, then get cutting!
Feeling good? i always do when cutting up clothes.

Ok now lay the jeans flat infront of you and working from the left leg cut up the right side of the leg seam and follow round up to where the zipper or buttons start.

Now turn do the same to the right leg but to the left of the seam and turn over and cut up to the waistband
 on the back.

Right time to get your pins out!
the side with the edging on folds over on to the side without so the main seam is on the top.
Line it all up so it all matches and sits nicely, then pin together.
Ignore the picture underneath i could not remove it lol its the picture under that you want

Right now you are all pinned up on both sides time to get the sewing machine out!
I lined up the skirt so you have the bottom of it away from me and put on a straight stitch.
start sewing on the right side of the seam, i did this to make it easier, then finish the stitch and lined the skirt back the way as you started. now you will sew on the fat seam along the left side of it so going over the original stitching. Now repeat on the back but obviously the other way around.

Right then now its time to level up the bottom of the skirt, you can fold the bottom over and so a seam or leave it to fray or a simple zigzag stitch.

Now well done you have made a skirt! now wear it with pride!

zips zips zips

Well its that time again, time to blog
So welcome to my new blog
Im vikki and im a fabriholic and a sewaholic. I love fabrics that are different and bright.
I started out making its and bits but i felt it just was not me so i started on oven gloves made out of fabric you will never find in the shops.
Then i was begged to make a bag out of the skull and roses fabric, so i made one and she loved it, so i put it on facebook and was asked to make more, then someone asked me to put a zip in one.
I must tell you zips are very scary! send most people who sew running for the hills. So i experimanted and after a few trys i came up with a perncil case, and found that zips were not all the frightening. So the bag was made and i decided to order zips for purses.
And now i love making zippy things and i have been on the folksy front page two days in a row!.
I am now no longer afraid of zips and i am expressing mydelf through fabric and sewing even more and i love it, so dont be afraid, ZIPS DONT HURT!
